Mad hatter's morning tea

On Wednesday, 23 May, Kogan State School had a Mad Hatters themed morning tea to help raise funds for the Queensland Cancer Council. The students had fun making their own hats and letting their creative energies loose.

In a surprise twist for students and staff, and following a significant donation from Trakida Civil Communication Contractors in Miles, two people had their heads shaved by Barber Bob from Chinchilla.

Frosty, on behalf of Frosty’s Working Dogs, was the first to donate his lovely locks to charity. In an impressive display of courage he allowed the school students to decide what hairdo he would walk away with, and even let them remove it themselves. Frosty ended up with a hair-raising Mohawk.

The second person to shave his mane for charity was school Principal Sam Gilmore. However, to seal the deal, NSW-born Sam had all the students first say "New South Wales are going to win tonight". This was a contentious point, but in the end the students all said it, just to see their principal have his head shaved. His hair was promptly removed.

"It’s great to see the support from the wider community", Sam said, "and our thanks goes to everyone who helped with the fundraising and the morning tea."

All funds raised will go to the Queensland Cancer Council.
